Who to contact

Driving

Car, tyres, fuel, maintenance….. nearly everything!

Apart from the car, helmet etc. you will need to be a confident driver with quick reactions.  For stage rallying you will need to attend a course at a BARS approved Rally School and pass a basic competence test.

All the thrills and glory.

Nasty bills!  However much care and attention you THINK a rally car needs, double it and you might be getting close!

·         Bank manager!

Co-driving

Entry fee and your own expenses (travel, accommodation etc.)

Must be good with paperwork, organised and calm under pressure.  You’ll also need to make sure you are fully familiar with the rules of Motorsport.

The cheapest way to compete in rallying.

The driver usually gets all the credit, but if something goes wrong the co-driver gets the blame!

Service Crew

You may be asked to pay for your own travel, meals and accommodation.

Basic mechanical knowledge and a willingness to learn will get you in.  Many private crews will be grateful for an extra pair of hands to change the wheels and pour in the petrol.

You’re involved with a team and can make a real difference to the results they achieve.

You’ll see very little of the action, if any.  It can be very cold, often wet and ALWAYS messy!

Marshal

Your own meals, travel, accommodation and plenty of warm clothing.

You’ll need to attend an evening’s free training in your local area to get you started.  You must be willing to take control in emergencies and deal with spectators, ensuring they watch from safe locations.

You can’t get much closer to the action that this!

You’ll have to cope with whatever the weather / public / rally crews throw at you.

Who to Contact

The Motor Sports Association is the governing body for motor sports in the UK.  They will be able to advise you on which motor clubs operate in your area, and provide you with contact details.  We started out with a call to the MSA, and look what happened…!
